I have begun to hear talk about giving up in this movement. Things like "Whats the use?" and "We are not getting anywhere?". My ? is, Where do you think you will get if you stop before you have really begun? These are the growing pangs of a very fledgling movement. Of course there are those that are burned out and tired. There are those of us who feel like we are doing what we can and it's not enough.
We all have our rolls to play in this. There are those who have the time and wear with all to sleep on the streets or in tents in parks. There are those of us who do things like acquire donations and supplies. There are those who do get things moving as in the GAs or marches and other actions. There are those who disseminate information. Those who follow the news, political magazines, articles and pass along and archive those that may be of import to the movement. There are those who spend alot time talking to people not of the choir. And there are many, many more that are doing their part to make a difference even if it may be a small difference. It all adds up to one huge change over time.
Some change has been very good. We have been able to draw in people of all different stripes. Reminding us all that we have way more in common than we do in differences. Exposing truth to those who have been blinded by the numbing affects of a predatory capitalistic world. The recognition that the theft of our retirements, health, livelihoods, futures and our country are not the doing of undocumented brown people or some religious zealots half way around the world. And certainly not some terrorists on 9/11-2001.
These thefts have occurred by people who have the awesome responsibility of the "Public Trust". The tool they used was capitalism. And they set out across the world like any predator to satisfy their insatiable thirst for profits and power at any cost. With any lion, tiger, or bear we would have long ago regulated, caged and put them to death if they had gotten out of control.
Predatory capitalism has bought OUR government, shaped the laws and written the legislation, put their own in office to make sure things come out right, creating the revolving door. They buy OUR natural resources at bargin rates making huge profits and leaving us with the cleanup and the costs. The list is a mile long of the price you and I pay to "guaranty" them a healthy bottom line. Predation might be fine out in the wild but when it comes to human beings and society as a whole, it is not acceptable.
I am not saying there should not be any capitalism. That would be ridiculous. I am saying that because of capitalism's predatory nature it must be well regulated. Regulation would protect the small businesses who would like a leveled playing field. Protect the country from being recklessly exploited. Protect our government from being bought by they highest bidder. Protect us from being a nation of the working poor, impoverished and enslaved.
We all have a dog in this fight. We have seen, otherwise healthy, sound businesses, bought and turned public. We have also seen those same companies service, quality, wages and benefits go in the tank. Eventually, they are moved to a 3rd world country or are bankrupt while those shareholders make off like "bandits". That's because that is exactly what they are. Predators.
The Public Trust has been breached and we are the ones to repair that breach. It is not in their nature to do so. Currently, they are concocting ways to ridicule, marginalize and silence us. They have the money to do it. But they do not have the people. In the words of a very famous fellow, “We must all hang together, or, assuredly, we shall all hang separately.” (Ben Franklin at the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4,1776)

With fewer jobs available due to advancements in technology, how in any capitalist system are we able to attain any amount of wealth equity for all as we continue to grow in size?
