Metro Detroit family blames fringe religion for Redford woman's suicide | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com
I posted this to the Ugly Side on Bundlr.com because I think this portraits the many faces of the Ugly Side of our society. One part is the disservice we do to the mentally ill when we provide little and nothing more than lip service when it comes to readily available services and meaningful outreach. The stigma that we attach to their very being is so negative that families don't know where to turn or how to talk about it. Which leads me to the scoundrels that prey upon those looking for answers. And they are cons. They take shreds of truth and a fact here and there and wrap it around some bogus fairytale and pass it off as some giant revelation. Most critical thinkers quickly see it for what it is. Completely wacko. But we are not the ones they are preying on. They are looking for sheep. People lost and looking for answers. People weak and at their most vulnerable. They just suck them in. The real Ugly is when they can turn on the news and all those wacko ideas are given validity. When the so-called "Mainstream" media offers them up as "some people are saying" or worse "expert opinion". Validating by absence of rebuttal is just as damning as an out right endorsement. But then again, I think they already know that.
